The Original New York Slice: The Pizza Show



New York is the birthplace of many things, but for today’s purposes, we’re sticking to pizza. Frank starts with a quick history lesson from Scott Wiener, the owner of Scott’s Pizza Tours. Then, we hit the streets to see and taste the history for ourselves. The best thing about the city’s pizza scene is that it’s relatively young, so you can still eat slices from the ovens of the people that started it all and put New York pizza on the map.

We meet the granddaughters of the man that literally brought pizza over from Naples, and even see the ovens that he used. Then, we hit all the best slices from Greenwich Village to Soho, and finish in Brooklyn at Luigi’s Pizza, a place untouched by time.

  1. You’re making me hungry! I loved the pizza and wings made in Buffalo growing up, but after watching this, you’re making me wanna visit NYC just for a slice of pizza 😋

  2. So Totonno's, was the question about the cheese ever answered? Was it just mozzarella or was there another cheese that gives it the sharpness? hmmm, just wondering? Looks amazing!

  3. The problem with Grimaldi is they went too commercial and took what was a simple pizza and made it complicated and added too much fluff, and this makes marketing the store expensive.

  4. Idk abt that coal cooking pizza. Won't the smoke from it be toxic? Won't it get into the pizza? If it's under I can get it. But it's literally on the same platform as the Pizza. Idk :/

  5. Yo, Frankie, now you got me goin' around the Orlando region checking out some NY style shops. I think my fav so far is Winter Garden Pizza Company. Something about just how nice and crispy the crust is, the edge as well. Flat out 5/5 for me. There was also a neat walk-up place out in Poinciana off Orange Blossom Trail that you just order from and pick up at he window.
